    School of Hard Knocks Volunteers

    8th graders recently participated in the School of Hard Knocks. Students learned to pay bills, deal with life’s unexpected issues, get a job, find housing, and purchase a car.  This was an eye opening experience for CMS 8th graders. Thank you to all parent volunteers for helping to make this event possible.

    EOG Volunteers

    Thank you to the volunteers who are proctoring for the EOG tests.  We look forward to seeing all proctor volunteers on May 23, 24, 29, and/or 30.  Please plan to arrive at CMS by 7:15 am.  We will conduct a brief proctor training prior to testing. We still need proctors for May 29 and 30 from 7:15 am until approximately 11:00 am or earlier. If you are able to help, please contact Mrs. Henley in the Guidance Office at 774-4680. Thank you.

    Congratulations 8th Grade Band

    8th grade Band received a rating of “Excellent” at the Music Performance Award at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory on March 21, 2013.  Way to go, Band Students! 
     
     

    National Scholastic Art Award

    Proctors Needed

     

    We need proctors and hall monitors on the following dates for Year End Testing:
    May 23, 24, 29, 30

     

    Proctors are required in testing classrooms. Proctors assist the test administrator with distributing and collecting test materials. Hall monitors are stationed in hallways to assist with restroom breaks and escorting students to and from testing. Volunteers should plan to be here from 7:15 am until approximately 10:45 am.   

    Please contact Mrs. Henley in the guidance office at 774-4680 if you can volunteer.

    Bad Weather Make Up Days

    The student day missed on February 22 will be made up on June 11, 2013. Any remaining bad weather days will be made up in the following order:

    Valentine’s Day Dance and Social

    On February 6, 2013 approximately 200 students participated in PTSA’s Second Annual Valentine’s Day Dance and Social.  These 6th, 7th and 8th graders enjoyed dancing and socializing with friends. Thank you to all of the staff and parent volunteers for making this event possible.

    Cookie Dough Fundraiser

    The cookie dough will be delivered to Clemmons Middle School on March 20. Please make arrangements to pick up your orders between 2:00-6:00 pm. We have no way to refrigerate the cookie dough following this date. Thanks to everyone who sold cookie dough!

     

     

    Volunteers Needed! Please help!

    We are quickly approaching End of Grade testing and School of Hard Knocks.  We are in need of volunteers. If possible, please email or call to volunteer to help with one or more of the following:

    1. End of Grade testing will be May 21-23 and 29-30.Proctors* are needed each morning from approximately 7:30 am until 10:30 am.

    2. The School of Hard Knocks** for 8th graders is on April 10-11. Volunteers are needed from 7:15 am-9:20 am and 11:30 am-2:00 pm.

    Congratulations Again CMS Robotics Team!

    CMS’s Robotics Team, Go Bots, represented CMS at the state competition at NC A&T on January 12.  The group won the Performance Award.  They will be recognized at the April 30 School Board Meeting and will showcase their state presentation.

     

    Spelling Bee Winners

    On January 11, CMS held its annual Spelling Bee. Congratulations to Nathan Rierstad who is CMS’s Spelling Bee champion. Nathan will represent CMS at the WSFCS Spelling Bee on February 15.  Lyo Ballard was runner up.  Way to go!

     

    Scholastic Gold Key Winners

    Congratulations to the following students for earning a Scholastic Key award. Gold Key Award artwork will be on display at Barton College before moving on to the national competition in New York City, and a reception to honor these students will be held at Barton College on Sunday, February 3, 2013.  Congratulations to our outstanding art teachers and awesome students/artists.

    Weather Closings

    It’s the time of the  year when we begin to see delays and closings due to weather. Please refer to the WSFCS web site, and/or WXII for delays, cancellations or closings. Days missed due to weather will be made up in the following order: 2/18, 6/11, 6/12, 3/28, 6/13 and 6/14.

     
     

    Congratulations Robotics Team!

    Congratulations to our GoBots’ team for advancing to the Regional State Qualifier to be held in Greensboro on December 8, 2012. 
    A win will advance the team to the state competition in January!
     
     

    Time to Tell for 6th graders

    Look for information coming home in today’s Wednesday packets with 6th grade students regarding the Time to Tell presentation. Students will view the video on December 6. Parents wishing to preview the video may do so on December 4 at 9:00 am or 6:00 pm in the CMS multi purpose room.  
     
     

    Career Center Tours

     During November, all 8th graders visited the Career Center.  These students toured the vocational and advanced placement areas of the school.  If you have a CMS 8th grader, ask about the trip and the opportunities they will  have available at the Career Center in high school.

    Barnes and Noble Book Fair

    Come to Barnes and Noble Book Fair supporting Clemmons Middle School from December 14-16.  A percentage of all proceeds will go to purchase books for the CMS media center.  Look for more information on how to volunteer to work this event coming home in Wednesday packets.

    Student Council Elections

    On Thursday, October 25th all Clemmons Middle School students listened to speeches by Student Council representatives running for officers’ positions. All students giving speeches were well prepared and should be proud of their speeches!

    Imprints Cares Open on Teacher Workdays

     

    If you are looking for someone to care for your child on teacher workdays, Imprints Cares, staffed by CMS employees,  is open at Clemmons Middle School from 7:30 am until 6:00 pm on November 5, 6 and 21. For your child to attend, you must register by Friday, November 2nd for the 5th and 6th and November 20th for the 21st.  The cost is $35.00 per day. The Imprints Cares after school program is also open daily until 6:00 pm. Please call

    8th grade CareerCenter Tours

     

    All 8th grade students will visit the Career Center during November. On this trip students will learn more about the opportunities available to them at the Career Center for vocational studies and Advanced Placement Classes. Look formore information coming home with 8th grade students soon.

     

    Volunteers needed

     

    If you are able to help with the vision screening with 7th graders on November 7th from 9:45 am until 11:30 am, please contact Mrs. Henley in the Guidance Office at 774-460.  Volunters are needed to check in students and move students through the screening process.

    Welcome Back!

    Welcome to the 2012-2013 school year! We are excited about the many opportunities we have available to our students and staff this year.  Currently, we have 869 students registered, and students continue to enroll daily.  We appreciate you supporting Clemmons Middle School by entrusting us to offer your child/children the best education possible in WSFCS.

     

     

    Reading Time

    Each team will have 20 minutes of reading time built into the schedule daily from 9:20 until 9:45 am. In addition, encore teachers will develop and teach reading lessons in classes at least once a quarter. We are encouraging a love for reading among our students by requiring them to have reading materials with them at all times. Please encourage your child to read at home.

     

     

    Imprints After School Program

    This year, we are excited to offer an after school program until 6:00 pm.  If you are interested in finding out more about the Imprints program, please contact Jennifer Brookshire at 774-4677 or jbrookshire@wsfcs.k12.nc.us

    Please remember to send in a $4.00 PE fee to your homeroom teacher as soon as possible. You may also use the online payment system to pay these fees.
