About Coach Pope:
 
Coach Pope is starting his 31st year of coaching high school baseball. This will be his 15th year as the head coach for the Titans. The 2002 team was runner-up in the state 4-A division. They went 27-4 and won the Western Regional Championship. The 2005 team finished 20-10 and made it to the final 4 in the state.The 2012 team finished with a record of 20-8 and a trip to the third round of the state playoffs.  The 2011 team won their division of the Hilltop Invitational Tournament.  Pope's overall record at West is 269-100 (winning %.729) They have won conference titles in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010 and tournament titles in 1999, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2009, 2010. They have qualified for the State playoffs in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011,2012.  The Titans have been Nationally ranked (top 75 or better) 4 times during Coach Pope's tenure.

Prior to coming to West in 1992, Coach Pope was a teacher and coach at East Davidson, Ledford, and Monroe. Coach Pope has also coached 9 years of American Legion, and 21 years (12 at West) of Football
 
In 1986 he served as a Graduate Assistant at Western Carolina, where he also played. While there he worked under Coach Jack Leggett (Clemson Head Coach), and coached Keith Leclair (Former ECU Head Coach) and Keith Shumate (Former NC A&T Head Coach). Coach Pope helped lead the Catamounts to the Southern Conference Title. He was in charge of the hitters and catchers.

Pope had the unique opportunity to coach against the Russian Army team in 1992, while at East Davidson.

Coach Pope has been part of 17 Conference Championships, and has been to the State Playoffs 23 times. He has had over 80 players continue on to play at the college level (55+ as head coach) and 10 make it to the Professional ranks. He was named CPC coach of the year in 2002, 2004 and 2010.

Coach Pope was involved in the State Games of North Carolina for 4 years. As an assistant coach for (2 years) the Region 5 team won a silver medal (in 2003). Serving as the Head Coach in 2004 the Region 5 Team also won a Silver Medal. In 2005 Coach Pope was an Assistant Coach for the West team that won the East/West All-Star series 3 games to none.

In 2008 Pope was named as one of the coaches for Team North Carolina, for the North Carolina/South Carolina Baseball Classic. It was the first time Team North Carolina swept the series. Coach Pope also coached Team North Carolina in the 2010 Diamond Prospects, Border Battle.
 
Coach Pope is married to Deborah C. Pope. Debbie is a teacher, and coaches the cheerleaders (9 time State Champions), at Ledford High School. They have 3 dogs Lola, Henry, and Scooter.
