Welcome to the Jaguars Den!
Southeast Middle School's Makerspace
As part of our T4 grant partnership with University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) we have had the wonderful opportunity to build a maker space with an incredibly generous grant which has afforded us monies to spend on our very own makerspace at SEMS!
So what is a Makerspace? There are several definitions out there but one we like is Makerspaces are rooms/areas that evoke creativity, innovation and imagination in our students. Makerspaces are environments that harbor trial and error and help foster critical thinking skills. According to the Makerspace Playbook: "Makerspaces come in all shapes and sizes, but they all serve as a gathering point for
tools, projects, mentors and expertise. A collection of tools does not define a
Makerspace. Rather, we define it by what it enables: making."
Students will be introduce to the Makerspace throughout the year and an after school club will be available to those students who wish to come and explore! Please be on the look out for more information about our Makerspace Club by the end of 1st quarter! Also, please be on the look out for how YOU can help our Makerspace!
Our Makerspace is beginning to take shape! :)
What does the Jaguars Den offer? Currently our Makerspace has:
We hope to be expanding our Makerspace resources this year! Please stay tuned!
