Dear Parents and Students:

Welcome to High School Chemistry.  I look forward to meeting all of you.  I am a new teacher at ECF this year.  Before coming here, I spent 12.5 years teaching science at Mt. Tabor.  My first semester at ECF was really awesome and I’m excited about teaching Chemistry this semester.  I am married and my husband works with the Early College program in Wilkes County.  I have two sons, Paul, who teaches math here at ECF and Mark, who is a freshman at NC State.

The material we cover in this course will follow the North Carolina State Standards.  There is a Common Core state exam.  In order to cover all of the material needed for the exam, we will work at a quick pace.  You will have homework every night.  This will usually consist of reading a section of your textbook and working problems.  In class, we will have activities to reinforce the material you read for homework.   There will also be lab activities and quizzes.  I will check homework for completion.  You will usually have a quiz once each week that will cover material in the chapter you are reading and previous chapters.  The quiz for the week will contain a couple of homework problems so be sure to do your homework.

You will have a test at the end of each chapter.

One of my goals for the course is to prepare you for college science.  This is the reason you will keep a notebook containing your reading notes from the chapter, homework problems, and class assignments.
If you need to contact me,e-mail: nwonsavage@wsfcs.k12.nc.us .

I look forward to working with you this semester.
