
Hanes students are constantly engaging in activities involving science and engineering, but what about their teachers? For one, learning about NASA and mechanical engineering is part of the job.
Mrs. Carol Taylor, who has been teaching at Hanes for eight years, was awarded a Kenan Fellow recently. The Kenan program, which selected just 47 teachers in
“We might have a big project coming up,” Mrs. Taylor said. “We’re just waiting for approval.”
Aside from her Kenan Fellow, Mrs. Taylor has several other accomplishments. She is a National Board Certified teacher in mathematics, has been nominated for the Presidential Award for outstanding mathematics teaching, and, in 2009, was awarded the Edyth Sliffe Award for being a distinguished math teacher.
Being the wonderful teacher she is, Mrs. Taylor likes to use the information she’s learned to better her students.
“My favorite thing to do is to challenge my students, and to stretch their brains to reach their potential,” Mrs. Taylor said. “I like to make my students think.”
