Hello, my name is Kathy Schwabe. I maybe your child's Guided Reading teacher. This is my 40th year of teaching. Let me tell you a little about myself. I graduated from Central Michigan University and taught 4 years in Hillsdale Michigan. During that time I also earned my Masters Degree in Education from Michigan State University. In 1977 I move to Winston-Salem to be closer to my parents. I earned my National Board Certification in 1998, and renewed in 2008. I'm also certified as a Mentor Teacher, and can teach ESL and Academically Gifted students. I believe teaching is my calling and I love everyday that I can interact and help students learn. Before coming to Speas 10 years ago I taught at Jefferson, Cook and Old Richmond Elementary Schools. At Speas I have had a variety of jobs. First as a Curriculum Coordinator, then as Title I reading and writing teacher. I retired in 2005 and now work half time in a variety of roles, Guided Reading Facilitator, Literacy Coach, Reading and Math teacher. This year I teach wonderful 3rd, 4th and 5th graders reading in small groups. I would love to talk with any parent about their child. Please call the office or e-mail me. I look forward hearing from you.
